Struggling to find what you need using databases? Check out the following search tips to help improve your searches.

Search Terms: Identify key concepts and terms related to your subject.

Vocabulary: Compile a list of synonyms or related terms based on your search terms. Try using one from the list if your initial search terms do not bring up relevant results.

Boolean Operators: Combine search terms with Boolean operators (AND, OR, & NOT)

Example: cancer AND smoking OR tobacco NOT astrology

Limit Results: Most databases will allow you to narrow your results down by publication date, item type (peer reviewed, newspaper, eBook, etc.), and other criteria.

Ask for Help: Ask for help from a librarian if you are struggling to find information.
